WiT Africa: 21 – A New Beginning
Rise. Connect. Own.
The world’s youngest continent. Most of its people are under 25. Restless, connected, impatient for what comes next. If 21 is the age of becoming who you want to be, Africa is the continent of becoming.
And it has done this before. It skipped the landline and went straight to mobile. It skipped the bank branch and went straight to mobile money. Now, three years into the age of Generative AI, it may skip a whole generation of travel tech, arriving at the agentic era with no legacy to unlearn.
The ground is still uneven. Air links that route Africans through Europe to reach each other. Visas that open some doors and close others. Payments, connectivity, infrastructure, trust. But when everyone restarts from the same line of the great unknown, the market with the least to protect has the most to gain.
The winners here will be those bold enough to build for the African traveller first, smart enough to bet on intra-African travel, fast enough to execute on mobile and local payments, open enough to collaborate across borders and airlines, and responsible enough to make tourism wealth stay in the communities that host it.
At the centre, as always, is the traveller: a fast-growing generation of Africans exploring their own continent, and a world of travellers discovering an Africa beyond the safari postcard. Our mission is to help them travel more, smarter, and better.

Co-hosted by Innovation City Cape Town and Travelstart, WiT Africa continues to champion innovation, collaboration and meaningful conversations across the travel and technology sectors, connecting African perspectives with global expertise.
